Madhura Utsav in Richmond, Virginia

GOD Chapter of Virgina, celebrated Madhura Utsav on Friday,October 12th 2012 at Hindu Center of Virginia. The program started with chanting of Mahamantra and rendition of Sri Swamiji’s kirtans by Gopakuteeram kids. This was followed by the Damodhara Leela dance drama performed by 30 Gopa Kuteeram kids. Every one enjoyed the performance and the kids also rendered few slokas and songs they had learnt from their weekly Gopakuteram classes.

Sri Ramanujamji delivered an enthralling lecture on Practical Wisdom to modern life. He beautifully explained quotes from Sri Swamiji’s discourses and Srimad Bhagavatham. He explained the importance of satsang and how shravana [hearing] is important. He lucidly elucidated how the word ‘silent’ is hidden in the word ‘listen’ and how they both go hand in hand. Listening is the first step in attaining practical wisdom. There should be no rules, time lines and restrictions imposed for chanting the divine names of the lord. Incessant chanting of the divine names soothes the mind. He encouraged all the devotees to chant the divine names as often as possible and whenever there is no constraint. Over 120 fortunate devotees who listened to the lecture joyfully chanted Maha Mantra with Sri Ramanujamji during the closing session.
