On Thursday, April 19, 2012, a satsang was conducted by Sri Poornimaji at Shirdi Sai Jalaram Mandir in the Houston area. A few Guru kirtans composed by Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji were first sung. This was followed by a discourse by Sri Poornimaji on Guru Mahima. Expounding on the first sloka of Srimad Ramayanam, Sri Poornimaji spoke of how it speaks about the qualities of an uttama Guru. Later she spoke of an incident from Sri Shirdi Baba’s life that showed how a mahatma, even if he is “unread” as seen by the world, still knows every bit of the shastras and their true meaning. Only such a Guru can guide the disciple–even a scholarly one– from ignorance to true knowledge and understanding.
