'VAK' Speech contest - Samskruthi 2021
Description:
Speech is a unique gift given by Bhagavan to us all! When we offer it as "Katha" or "Kirtan", we are truly showing our gratitude to Bhagavan. Come! Let’s gracefully celebrate this divine gift together as a divine family! - G.O.D
When: Jul 31, 2021 (Saturday) @ 12PM ET / 11 AM CT / 9 AM PT
Where: Online (Live Event in Zoom).
Zoom coordinates will be shared with registered participants.
GUIDELINES
- The participant’s speech needs to be based on
- pre-recorded lectures given by authentic speakers
- or authentic Hindu scriptures
- or legitimate online sources that spread the greatness of our Sanatana Dharma / Hindu culture.
- Time limit:
Age Group 6 to 8 & 9 to 12 - 3 minutes max.
Age Group 13 to 15 & 16 to 18 - 5 minutes max.
- Speeches should be from memory and not read from a script.
- Please choose one of the topics listed under your age category ONLY.
- Evaluation will be based on the judging criteria mentioned below. While dressing up in costumes is up to the participant, it is not part of the judging criteria.
- Indian traditional attire is a must.
- Registration closes on Thursday, July 15, 2021.
- This is a live online event and will be conducted on Zoom. Meeting coordinates will be shared with registered participants closer to the event.

CHARACTERISTICS OF A GOOD SPEECH
- The topic is clearly stated in the beginning.
- The connection is drawn to the topic at the end of speech.
- The audience is left with a message to ponder!
- Speech is descriptive and interwoven with conversations where applicable to make it more lively and interesting.
- A couple of lines from kirtans that are apt for the topic can be quoted or sung. But musicality will not be part of the judging criteria.
- Use a quote/sloka or two and give credit to the author (if quote) or mention the name of the scripture (if sloka).
- Make eye contact and connect with your audience.
- Use facial expressions and hand gestures but keep it natural.
- Try not to read the speech, but rather speak naturally!
