Based on Sri Ramanujamji’s youth discussion sessions.
Oftentimes, we as humans find ourselves pondering over the array of tasks and milestones way ahead and end up feeling overwhelmed and unsettled. In this talk, Sri Ramanumaji shared Sri Swamiji’s simple and easy method to overcome this through a very beautiful interpretation of Sri Krishna Katha.
When Bhagavan Lord Sri Krishna was born in prison, he looked at Vasudevji, his father and said, “Take me to Gokula”. Vasudevji was in the prison completely shackled and could barely move. Even still, not a question or ray of doubt crossed his mind as to how to carry this instruction. He immediately abided by Bhagavan’s words and began to move. The only thing Vasudevji could do was carry Bhagavan in his hands and just take one step. The moment he took the first step, the shackles broke and now he could go up to the door.
Whenever Vasudevji and Devaki Matha were in the prison, the guards were ever alert watching their every move. Now as Vasudevji walked to the door, the guards were completely asleep and the door opened on its own. Vasudevji proceeded into the dark night. There was a heavy thunderstorm and no light to guide him. However as he moved along, he found the source of light – Adisesha Bhagavan right above protecting little Krishna and the beautiful jewels shining on his hood giving light. He could see only two steps in front but with strong faith in Bhagavan’s words, he continued the journey and finally stood facing Sri Yamuna Devi. Sri Yamunaji was gushing and flowing. Vasudevji knew that with just one step he wouldn’t drown. Thinking so he took one step. As he slowly moved in, the water which was touching his knees first went to his ankles and at the end barely even touched his toes by the time he reached Gokulam.
Again at Nanda Maharaj’s home, Sri Krishna instructs Vasudevji to leave him at Gokulam and take Yoga Maya, who was born as a baby daughter to Yashoda Matha, back with him to Mathura. It is very difficult for any father to leave his child behind, and here the child is none other than Bhagavan Sri Krishna Himself! Yet he followed the instruction without question.
The underlying message in Vasudevji’s journey is that he took a step by step approach to reach the ultimate goal. Had he thought and pondered over all the obstacles and challenges he had on the way, he would have never succeeded. When we drive a car at night, the headlights of the car do not illuminate the entire pathway, rather only lights up a few meters in front of us. Yet that is more than enough for anyone to reach the destination.
This is how divinity works, we take just one step and the entire canvas of our life is taken care of by Bhagavan and Guru. All we need to do is, with faith and conviction take the very first step. And divinity shall reveal the rest!
