‘Katha Kacheri’ on the Story of Dhruva Swami by Atlanta Namadwaar Family

By the immense grace of Sri Swamiji and Sri Madhurisakhi Sametha Sri Premikavaradha Takurji, Atlanta Namadwaar was blessed to host a unique and inspiring Katha Kacheri on March 21, 2026. This special program beautifully wove together katha and Carnatic music, offering the audience an immersive devotional experience.
This thoughtfully curated program was conceived as a fundraiser to support build Atlanta Namadwaar’s new home and stood out as a distinctive presentation that brought together accomplished artists and devoted members of the Atlanta Namadwaar family.

The Katha Kacheri featured Dhruva Charitham a Tamil musical opera composed by Srirangam S. Prasanna Venkatesh, inspired by Sriman Narayaneeyam, Dasakam 17. The opera brings alive the inspiring spiritual journey of young Dhruva through a succession of thoughtfully composed musical pieces.
Originally published in 2021 with musical notation and an elaborate commentary by Santhakkavi Lt. Sri Ramaswamy, Dhruva Charitham narrates the inspiring spiritual journey of young Dhruva—his trials, unwavering devotion, intense penance, and eventual attainment of Dhruva Padham through the grace of Lord Narayana.

The opera unfolds through a sequence of carefully structured compositions, beginning with invocatory prayers and progressing through key episodes:
• Dhruva’s rejection in the royal court
• His anguish and guidance from his mother Suniti
• Sage Narada’s divine intervention
• Dhruva’s penance in the forest
• The disturbances caused by the Panchaboothas
• The Lord’s appearance and blessing
• The conclusion Phala Shruti and Mangalam
Each segment was rendered in appropriate ragas and talas, enhancing the emotional and spiritual depth of the narrative.

The katha was presented by Smt. Shobha Parasuram, whose evocative storytelling formed the very heart of the program. Drawing directly from Sriman Narayaneeyam (Dasakam 17) and Srimad Bhagavatam (Canto 4, Chapters 8 and 9), she anchored the narrative firmly in scripture, offering depth, context, and spiritual continuity to the musical presentation.
Through her clear and engaging explanations, she gently guided the audience through each episode of Dhruva Charithram, illuminating the significance of the compositions and the underlying emotions of the story. The katha and kacheri were intertwined effortlessly, allowing the two hour program to unfold organically as both absorbing and spiritually elevating, keeping the audience fully engaged.

The musical presentation featured a distinguished ensemble of artists who have long supported Atlanta Namadwaar and the Atlanta Carnatic music community.:
• Vocalists: Srirangam S. Prasanna Venkatesh, Salem Shriram, Subramaniam Viswanathan (Subra), and Ramanujan Poyapakkam
• Flute: Saikishore Ravishankar
• Mridangam: Santosh Chandru

The compositions were new to many of the performers and were brought to life through hours of dedicated and focused practice, including multiple joint rehearsal sessions with Shobha ji, to ensure a seamless integration of katha and music. During the performance, the voices of the vocalists came together in beautiful unison. This vocal synergy was exquisitely supported by the instrumentalists, whose sensitive and precise accompaniment enhanced every nuance of the compositions, blending individual strengths into a harmonious and spiritually uplifting whole. By Sri Swamiji’s immense grace, the artists’ tireless effort, commitment, and shared devotion culminated in a masterful and cohesive musical experience that resonated powerfully with the audience.

The venue came alive early in the day as dedicated volunteers came together to create a welcoming and deeply devotional ambience. On the stage, a beautifully arranged pedestal featured the divine images of Sri Swamiji and Sri Premikavaradha Takurji, accompanied by Srimad Bhagawatham, blessing the performers and everyone present at the occasion.

Members of the Atlanta Namadwaar family attended dressed in blue, symbolizing unity and solidarity, while the performers brought vibrancy to the stage in red attire, creating a visually striking and meaningful contrast. The experience was further elevated by exceptional audio quality, made possible through a well coordinated setup of multiple microphones, ensuring a clear, immersive, and spiritually enriching listening experience for all in attendance
The two-hour program concluded with collective Nama chanting. As a heartfelt gesture of gratitude, Atlanta Namadwaar honored all the performing artists at the end of the program, acknowledging their devotion, time, and contributions in making the event a spiritual and cultural success. The program received very positive feedback from devotees of all age groups, many of whom shared that the presentation offered them a deeper and more meaningful understanding of Dhruva Charithram

By Sri Swamiji’s grace, the success of the Katha Kacheri was made possible by the selfless and unified efforts of the Atlanta Namadwaar volunteer family, who truly embodied the spirit of a close knit family coming together in service. Volunteers contributed extensively—not only through the beautiful decoration of the venue, but also by setting up the event hall, coordinating logistics, and ensuring a seamless experience for both artists and attendees. Their service extended well beyond the program itself, with meticulous post event cleanup, reflecting humility and dedication. Several volunteers also took responsibility for collecting, packing, and transporting lunch boxes for all participants and audience members, ensuring that arrangements were carried out with care and thoughtfulness. Through meticulous planning and preparation over more than two months, including coordinating invitations and managing logistics behind the scenes, the volunteers’ devotion and commitment were evident from conception to flawless execution. This collective effort was possible only because the Atlanta Namadwaar family stands united in gratitude, devotion, and service, firmly held together by Sri Swamiji’s boundless grace.
