Agaccha Svayameva Mama Hridaye

“Come into my heart, on Your own accord, O Shripathe! I shall constantly watch the door of my heart and await Your grace….”

Let us relish this rasa-filled Madhurageetham with the exposition of Sri Ramanujamji .

In this beautiful Madhuragitam, “AgacCha SwayamEva,” our Swamiji lovingly asks Sri Krishna to come into his heart—not because of his own spiritual accomplishments, but purely out of the Bhagavan’s grace. He asks Sri Krishna to come along with Sri Radha as Sri Radha-Krishna Yugalam and take His place in his heart.

pallavi :

AgacCha svayamEva mama hridayE
mA gacCha kShaNamapi shriya: pathE

“tatEnukampAm susamIkShamANo” – Krishna, please come with Radha Rani as Yugalam on Your own accord, please come into my heart, “AgacCha swayamEva mama hridayE”. What will I do? I will just be waiting, sitting and anticipating when you will come.

Anupallavi :

sAdhanarahithOham bhAvanarahithOham
thava kripAmAtram avalambanam shrIharE || A ||

I shall not do any sAdana, I will not take any effort, because I want You to come on Your own accord. “Thava kripAmAtram”, I am holding on only to your kripa. Out of Your kripa, You come on Your own accord. I will sing Your names and wait for You. Namasankirtanam is not a sadhana, it is kAlakshepa (it is my way of anticipating Your arrival in my heart).

Sabari waited in the forest to have Sri Ramachandra Prabhu’s darshan. She did not chant ‘Rama’ nAma for Sri Rama to come. She chanted ‘Rama’ nAma because her Guru told her to chant ‘Rama’ nAma. Sri Rama came on His own accord, kripa, because she chanted ‘Rama’ nAma. Sabari waited with the same faith, joy, zeal and enthusiasm every day.

Charanam :

chandrasamAna sundaravadana
shankhachakradhara shyAmaLavarNa
shathakOTi manmatha sundarAkAra
charaNarasika muraLIdharanutha || A ||

We see reference to Chakora bird in our Puranas. This bird lives and nourishes on the cool rays of the moon. A Chakora bird would wait for the clouds to clear so that it can drink the nectar of Moon’s rays. It cannot control the clouds or the moon, all it can do is just wait in anticipation to get the sight of the moon.

“chandrasamAna sundaravadana” – ‘Hey Krishna! You have a beautiful face like a moon. I am like a chakora bird waiting for You. Like the clouds have to move on their own accord for the moon to be seen, Krishna, You should come on Your own accord.’

Jayadeva, in his Ashtapati sings, “srimukha chandra chakora”. In this Ashtapati, he says, “We all wait for Sri Krishna’s chandra mukham to show. Sri Krishna is waiting on the banks of River Yamuna for His chandramukam (Radha Rani), so that He can get nourishment from the lovely and divine countenance of Radha Devi.” Jayadeva has become the epitome of bhakti by singing these lines.

“shankhachakradhara shyAmaLavarNa” – Guruji is describing Bhagavan’s lovely dark blue form with Shanka (conch), Chakra (Disc) in His hands.

“shathakOTi manmatha sundarAkAra” – Krishna’s beauty is incomparable to the beauty of even 100 crores of Manmathas put together.

“charaNarasika muraLIdharanutha” – “I am your charana rasika, which means I want to serve Your lotus feet.”

In this Madhuragitam, Swamiji is praying for Sri Krishna’s darshan only and to have His divine beauty in his heart and nothing else.
