Multi-Regional Indian New Year Celebrations at Houston Namadwaar

This year (2016) almost all of India’s regional new year celebrations fell within a week of each other, and so G.O.D. Houston decided to celebrate the occasion as a multi-regional event focusing India’s vibrant multi-cultural diversity and its common thread of devotion and the Divine Name on Sunday, April 17 2016.  Several cultural and children’s events took place including mehendi, face painting and regional dress-up for the kids, a Rangoli contest for ladies. The highlight was a Ramayana Puppet Show by G.O.D’s Dancing Peacock Puppet Company, which was a great hit among the kids.
This was followed by a Divine Name Prayer by Sri Swamiji sung in 7 regional languages, Bhajans in many regional languages and a special New Year message by Sri Ramanujam ji, All the children were also treated to small gifts.
Finally all the participants enjoyed prasad from different regional cuisines of India. It was a fun and beautiful evening that was enjoyed by the 50+ people who attended.
