“Our Awesome Dharma” Summer Camp in Houston

From July 17th – 21st, a fun week-long summer camp themed as “Our Awesome Dharma” was conducted by Global Organization for Divinity at Sri Aishwarya Srinivasa Perunal Temple at Namadwaar Houston. The camp encompassed kids from ages 7 through 14 in two age groups.

Here the kids learned about the grandness of India and Sanatana Dharma, and also learned the answers to many questions such as How did the Hindu religion start? How did Hinduism get its name? Why are there many gods in the Hindu religion? Why do we do daily puja? The content was based on the “I Am Awed” book (https://www.amazon.com/AM-AWED-HINDU-DHARMA-GLOBAL-ebook/dp/B0BZJZDCYF), and all campers also got a copy of this book at the end of the week.

There were also special workshops held as part of the camp, including Pichwai Art and Warli Art workshops, a Creative Writing workshop, a Photography workshop, a Clay sculpting workshop and an Indian Culinary Arts workshop. One one day, the campers also got to go out on a field trip. They visited the Jagannath Temple and the Explore Asia exhibit at the Asia Society Texas Center. They also learned to sing the popular song of unity – Mile Sur Mera Tumhara – that emcompasses 14 different Indian languages.

At the end of the camp, the 27 students presented their learnings to their parents and Bhagavan.
